Brown zircon is a natural zircon colored primarily by trace amounts of iron and structural crystal lattice features. While naturally mined brown zircon can look somewhat dark or reddish-tan in rough form, it is one of the most important minerals in the gemstone trade—both for its rich warm earth tones when precision faceted and as the starting material for heat-treated blue zircons.
